The Easter Weekend

I had been on Easter holiday for the past 4 days, today I am back at work but still feeling happy and relaxed as I had a wonderful time with the family (btw I have calmed down after the episode of the Traffic Warden but I still wish her failure in every step of her life InshaAllah).
Although the kids are on 2 weeks Easter holiday, they still had to go to the Arabic school on Saturday, so Saturday early evening I took them to a Fun Fair in Finsbury Park in North London, fun fairs are not as popular as they used to be, these days they are almost always empty the reason I suppose is because there are so many Theme Parks that are a lot better and cheaper too, I mean rides on this fun fair cost £2.50 per person per ride and that's what you pay even if you are a child. The kids wanted to go on the Ghost train ride which surprisingly was £1.50 per person, they got in the car I paid, car went inside, car came outside about 8 seconds later, OK get off the car ride is finished! I couldn't believe that I paid £3 for something that lasted 10 seconds, I went over the attendant who was Polish (almost everyone working there was Eastern European) I asked him is that it? he said yes that's it! I was angry (typical Libyan) I saw many people get on the train for this ride, I said loudly to them, this ride is a con it only lasts 10 seconds and the kids told me that there was only 2 puppets inside, that's it, I am glad to say many did get off this stupid ride.
Although it costs a lot of money for a short time of entertainment but the happy look on the kids faces makes it worth every penny spent (within reason).

The bold guy sitting to the right of this picture, looked really sick as the ride started and I was worried that he was going to throw up all over Aida!

A friend of mine got on this ride, 2 cars in front of my kids, as the ride was going really fast, I noticed his face swelling then I noticed Amir was crying, he bumped his head but thank Allah he was fine but not my friend, he actually vomited, can you imagine?? probably many people got splashed with vomit :o)
The poor guy was covered in sick and had to go home, of course another friend that was there found it very funny and just could not stop laughing.

The weather was fantastic all through the weekend, warm sunshine so the kids enjoyed going to the park as well, usually on Bank Holiday weekends in Britain the weather takes a turn for the worst but not this time, Alhamdulellah.

Yesterday morning we decided to go to Woburn Safari Park which is about an hour drive north of London near the city of Luton.
we left quite early and got there at opening time, 10:00 AM, Easter Monday is usually one of the busiest days of the year in many zoos, parks and so on, I though if we get there early then we can at least avoid the crowds for few hours, it was the right decision to take, only about 30 cars in front of us, as soon as we paid we were on the Safari Drive that takes you from one species of animals to the other.
I used my mobile phone camera and while it is actually quite good at 3.2 Mega Pixels for taking close up pictures, it was not that great for far away objects, hence the sometimes fuzzy pictures.

Rhinos roaming between the cars

The Tigers kept well away

There are 3 Bears in this picture, they were so fat that they looked like big fur balls with a mouth!

The Lions Enclosure contained about 15 lions, they were being fed as we got in but it seems many of them were enjoying the warm sun that they ignored the food, the crows were all over the meat devouring it

a cute baby Giraffe

I have been to this safari park about 5 years ago, the monkey enclosure had about 200 naughty monkeys, I remember some of them jumped on my car and broke bits and pieces of it, incidentaly all those monkeys had to be put down because they were found out to have a disease. This time I though I am not going to stop the car to prevent the monkeys from jumping on it, actually there was not many of them, perhaps just 30 or 40, the monkey on the car in front me (picture above) was being fed by the people inside the car even though there was a big sign asking people not to feed the animals, they were spotted by a park ranger and they were told off.

The kids were getting annoyed because no monkey came on our car when one jumped right in front of me, this really made them happy.

another monkey sat on my side mirror and was looking at me hoping for something to eat
(I told Amir to be careful as he might be mistaken for a Monkey, he laughed ..lol)
Spot the Difference with the above picture :o)
After the Safari Drive you come to the far side of the park, I went into the huge car park, there was only about 20 cars parked there, by the time we finished and decided to go home there was no less than 1000 cars parked in there! imagine if that nasty traffic warden got in there! she would have had a great day sticking Penalty Notices all over these cars ...lol
There was a beautiful lake there called Swan Lake with Pedalo boats in the shape of swans, each boat takes 4 but since both of my kids insisted on driving the boat and peddling as well, we took 2 boats, Amir was with me really struggling to reach the pedals but did a good job :o)
Next to the lake there was a huge indoors adventure play area for kids which was a big hit with my children we then had something to eat then went for a walk through the animals encounter areas where they had many kangaroos and wallabies with babies as well as monkeys, lemurs and many birds including Penguins, by then my phone had ran out of battery and I could not take anymore pictures :o(

Free ranging marmosets, I saw 4 of them and at a very close range, I cant understand how they stay in this enclosure as it is very easy for them to escape, I suppose they were trained to stay there!

It was good to enjoy the park before it got really crowded by about 1PM, the kids enjoyed almost everything the park offered with not many people around, we left the park at 4 PM, it was heaving then and you had to queue for any attraction or food, we had a great day and I hope you enjoy the pictures.
I finished the day by watching Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire great film with fantastic special effects, unlike other Harry Potter films, this one is aimed at older children as it can be a bit scary for the little ones.

AngloLibyan,

What a wonderful holiday weekend with your family, mashallah. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to see you’re over the traffic warden as you only mentioned her twice. ;-) I especially love the endearment bestowed upon her in the beginning (I still wish her failure in every step of her life). LOL

Great pictures as well, mashallah. One of my next goals is to figure out how to upload photos.
