Toilet Tissues (I meant Issues)

Apparently there is a market for customised toilet tissues to keep you entertained while you are busy :o)
Here is a selection of what I found, I could think of few more designs/pictures but I think I need to order them in case they are not available :o)
Good message!
Sudoku for hours of entertainment that's what I call recycling :o)

This is a present from ibeebarbie (Thank you ) :o)

no wonder he is there!

he had to be there

can you think of someone else??

too expensive even for him

too big perhaps??

NO WAY !!

The ultimate entertainment toilet seat

I have seen this before but it is very bad for the fish as every time the toilet is flushed, clean water full of chlorine enters the fish tank, it is poisonous for the fish (incidentally I am a Fish Keeper with many years of experience).

Finally, thank you Ema for this picture :o)

Hi AL,
Thats so funny! I think the best one in terms of doing good, is the one with wash your hands. Do you know washing your hand is one of the most, if not the most important factor in preventing infection, especially in a hospital setting.
Another note, most people don't realize that probably the most important significant medical/health discovery in recent history was not penicillin or DNA etc, in fact its the developing and building of modern sewage works! The health benefits have been huge. Every body takes that for granted, but read around the history about this development and you will realize a lot of things. It all started close to where you probably live AL, in London.

But you know what your post reminds me of? The public toilets in Libya, they are absolutely disgusting.
Any sane person would expect at least the toilets in Tripoli "international" Airport should be at least impeccably clean right? Wrong, you literally get pushed away by the smell from the door! If you can't wait until you board the plane then what you will see is even worse, and the taps don't work, and most drip on the floor making the scene even worse! Its so embarrassing to see foreigners make remarks about it. And rightly so!
There is no management even in looking after such things, its disgraceful really. I bet the money thats allocated for such things gets stolen, but what I can't understand is the total lack of shame in seeing travelers; many of whom are foreigners, take back with them embarrassing stories of what they saw and smelt!
Some Libyans (not all) need to be taught on the rules of toilet etiquette, esp. in the public toilets. May be a Toilet Ministry should be set up for a few years,,,lol, but then again if it is, the minister will just use it to steal money,,leaving all toilets and behavior the same. ...lol.
We should start a "clean public toilets" campaign for Libya!!

Take care,

Beacon.

I would like to add this one to your list, please.

Good one Anglo !

The best one I liked was the one with the fish(sorry )but I do wish the water tank could somehow be put in front, to view. That would be truly nice and relaxing, thats why the Americans and Libyans call it a rest room lol.

Thanks Beacon
all hospitals here have a hygenic handwash at the entrance to every ward.
in London at the moment they are replacing sewege/water pipes that have been in operation since victorian times.

regarding public toilets in Libya, this issue has been raised by Khadija Teri and Trabilsia (and others)it is a disgrace and a shameful issue which needs to be resolved immediately if Libya is hoping for business & tourists boom.
HOW EMBARASSING!, and people should take the blame not just the authorities.

ibeebarbie
two rolls of GW!
no, its 3 rolls of GW thanks to you :o)

oops sorry we snapped ya Trabilsia :o)

yes you are right, what is the point of having the fish tank behind if you can not see it! lol

at least Americans & Libyans agree on something for a change :o)

Beacon ,
Toilet Ministry might be a good idea, but better would be a Cleaning Ministry . One where our beloved people learn to be clean or pay a tax. That might do the trick !
We dont have a problem with toilets only but with our people. One is either clean or dirty. No in between(as my students would say half /half)

PH said...

"One is either clean or dirty"

Trabilsia, I don't think you mean to say Libyans are dirty do you? I mean they don't have public toilets in the first place except in the hospitals and two international airports, and regardless of how clean or dirty the Libyans may be, if nobody cleans the toilets (government) they are bound to get dirty . The problem I think is mainly littering and even with the that the government doesn't provide many - if any - public bins nor does it empty them and pick up the rubbish from them in the places they are provided in, right?

a_akak said...

I agree with both trabilsia & PH although libyans might be a bit (hence a BIT) careless and i wouldnt go to the extent of using dirty but the bigger blame is on the shoulders of government for not maintaining the few toilets we have

Oh yeah, the subject......hmmmm not sure what to say about it?? but its good to know

Trabilsia said...

Ph ,
One cant call ones people dirty if they are ignorant of the fact themselves. I dont think the govenment has anything to do with it.Its a people problem. Ok, I'll set another example :
Gov. renewed all schools, their toilets, classes painted remodelled etc..... I visited many schools after 2 weeks to find that everything was taken for granted and wasn't in tip top shape even the handles of classrooms were broken. Now tell me who is to be blamed?

a_akak,
Thank you for agrreeing with me if only silghtly.

Again my dear son blaming the guv takes us nowhere and is never constructive but Im sory to say an easy way out.Whether you like it or not its a people issue which must be addressed.

My dear brother Anglo ,
I hope you dont mind me taking your role here as it is your blog.

And to all may Allah bless you and your families.

Trabilsia :)

I thank you for your reply and i think i do agree with you more than you think :) but although the people are to blame and they may need social education (to some extent) but the government should act irrespectively of its citizens behavior anyway i used this quote a few days ago and i think it applies here as well "God does not change anything in a nation until people change what is within them"

Thanks

mani said...

salam people..

can I just point out something quickly here..

the government is not some arbitrary entity.. there is no martian or extraterrestrial being called the 'government' here. the guv is made up of many people. in Libya, most of the time we don't even know where the government ends and the people begin, blaming the 'gov' or government bodies is a quick way out for most people to absolve themselves of responsibility. and of course, when tell us that we live in 'direct democracy' and that the people are the government, we end up with the very conveniet extremes.. either no one takes the blame.. or everyone takes the blame...

people are 'dirty' when they allow their streets to be dirty, not when they personally smell.. when they do, that's way beyond 'dirty'.. thats just unislamic, considering that the first bab of any islamic book of fiqh is tahara...

people are dirty when they allow bins to litter their streets when they could easily go an extra 10 mins and secure disposal, the guv dosent close up streets in weddings and funerals and block sewers and cause public grief.. people dig up the streets as much as the 'government' in some place... the 'guv' is not behind the hords who dont recognise the red light and endanger the lives of others...

people dont care to spend a lil time cleaning something cause they think it's the guv fault and why should they do it??.. that aint an islamic attitude, regardless of the structural issues..

a_akak said...

Mani

Although we should be the gov and the gov should be us but that is in an ideal world and i dont think we are in one

Law, must be implemented and carried though, Legislation must be put in place for people to follow, bins must be put on the street for people to put the rubbish in (not an excuse for throwing on the street), Punishment must be carried out when a fool ignores the red light (unless his wife is waiting for him for lunch or she has to go to a wedding or something, now that is ok), With no law people by nature become rebellious (good example, the ferry that was stranded in Dorset (UK) and how the "civilized" brits started to ransack it......check e-bay still items there and a good story about no law/rebellious situation is "Lord Of The Files") anyway back to the subject (for some reason i was thinking of Tom & Jerry but not a good place now), tell me why do the same people who dont stand in a straight queue in Tripoli airport become the most obedient law abiding people once they enter Heathrow/Gatwick? and they make the straightest queue/line?.....aren’t these the same people? so then you ask yourself "what has changed?" and the same with libayn drivers when they enter Tunisia...... anyway how did the toilet roll morph into this?

mani said...

Ahmed :D, Salaaaam bro and top of the morning tae ya! :P

Let me starts you off by saying in the words of Piccolina, duh! :)

Yes, the ideal is that we should be the government and the government should be us, hence the basis for 'direct democracy' as a theory.

But lets talk about this from an Islamic perspective for a sec. Isn't Islam the ideal? Isn't the Muslim, his own government? doesn't is faith instruct him to be clean, to give without expecting, to be courteous, to be polite, to be considerate, not to backbite, not to rob or steal, and to do all of these even in the face of hardship and suffering with patience and altruism?

That is, if we were talking about Islam, and the Muslim INDIVIDUAL. Those are the manifests of believers. When they are absent, questions need to be asked. That's the first thing. now let's talk about society.

The 'ideal' world does not, and will not exist. It's based on a silly Utopian view of the harmony of human will, and completely removes the human capacity for conflict of interest.

This is why in a society of 'direct democracy', Three other components need to be implemented or it wont work;

1) uniformity and independence of the law from executive proceedings,
2) freedom of exchange (regulated by the few simple principles of islamic law), which allows for leaders in their fields to rise and form the executive parts of the state.
3) an independent central monetary system that can provide the right incentives, disincentives and coordination between the private interests within this system, and monetize BOTH, the product and costs of a society's economic activity.

No my friend, uniformity of punishment for crossing a red light applies whether his wife wants to rush to a wedding or to a funeral. in the UK, you'll still get penalized for talking on a phone whilst driving, and no one will pay attention to your excuse, the law is the law. the exemption mentality is not an upholder of the law, it creates wasta etc.

In our country, when legislation is put in, no one need follow it cause the law apparently is something only the weak observe.

In our country, When public budget is allocated, it is 'public wealth', and will be stolen by every hypocrite in a station which the budget passes, so much so that it only buys people's conscience, and not their welfare.

when these three components are absent responsibility becomes naked and immoral opportunity.

Western 'participatory democracy' to a very large extent has these three 'independent' components. I put it in quotation cause the independence is only 'apparent' and applies to the 'majority' of citizens.

However, the basis of their 'rule', monetary mechanisms and regulatory systems are not rooted in Islam, and thus has managed to create a functioning system that allows BOTH, Responsibility AND immoral opportunism. It has only survived thus far as a testament to the benevolent and Islamic human nature, which we as Muslims believe to be true, and which is the guiding factor in most citizens of western democracies.

When Islamic ETHICS are not the guiding principles of the citizens, they too will become corrupt but in a sophisticated sense, and devise genius ways of either circumventing the law (through fly sophists and lawyers) or by making it 'legal' (via devious money ways among other things). GENUINE Muslims can truly prosper in the west because it enhances the dimension of their responsibility, while their Islamic 'ethics' safeguard them from immoral opportunism. Maybe this is why GENUINE Muslims, take a backseat role in Western politics and excessive money management, because they know it corrupts them and their Islamic values.

It is also the reason why a Libyan, used to disobeying the law, can become a law abiding citizen in a matter of 3 hours flight from tripoli to the UK like you said.

"With no law people by nature become rebellious"

Now this is based on the Hobbs's FLASE notion (the presumed 'RIGHT' of the strong to rule the weak) which states that by their nature people are fools, barbaric and uncivilized in, and will tend to be corrupt if not ruled and put in place by a system that governs their actions. This is not the Islamic premise. We as Muslims, believe the opposite, that belief, good morals, responsibility and a search for 'meaning' rather than 'naked individualistic self interest' is the nature of humans, to be corrupted by the force of opportunity in their environment.

Anyway I need to rush off with mum for a second, gonna go to Brighton quickly to pick up the rest of my stuff!! Ill get back to you as soon as I come back. thanks for your patience! :)

a_akak said...

Mani

Although i think you have diverged a bit from the initial point but I do admit that you brought up a point that i missed and that is the Islamic angle and with that in the picture i dont think i could argue as Islam states, covers & clarifies all the points above :) so i will leave it at that

ph, thank you for starting this debate which is only trying to improve the situation in our country.

Trabilsia, mani & a_akak I thank you all for the contribution.

I have made my view clear on this subject before and while I agree that authorities take some responsibility, its the people that should take most of the blame, even here in the UK where authorities do provide us with everything to stay clean and tidy, still you find people (some Libyan) that would throw rubbish on the street and when you point to them that its wrong they give you an uncaring attitude, I have touched on this subject before back in Oct 2006, you can read it HERE

I would like to repeat what Ahmed said as it explains it all:
"God does not change anything in a nation until people change what is within them"

thanks brave heart, at least you noticed the funny pictures :o)

by the way this was meant to be a light hearted post to make us smile :o)
I am glad Toot has labelled it funny HERE :o)

Yes Anglo it was funny, and thank you for that I was just disappointed at Trabilsia's (I thought she was talking about hygiene )comment and Mani's Illustration of the situation in Libya and even though the general public does take some blame, but in a country in which more than half the population doesn't have any sewage system and there are no public bins at all among other things ..... strange comments, too idealistic and don't purpose any solutions.

ph said...

Sorry I forgot the quote everyone is using is from the Quran:

Salam people!!

Alhamdulillah, got back safe from brighton. Mum is a wicked driver!! :)

Anglo, Ahmed, PH, All, I am sorry that I diverged. It was 5.30 oclock in the morning I started writing, and I was really inspired. the thoughts were rushing in cause there were already examples to base theory on. I take the chance to note my thoughts quickly on the comments as it is very difficult to gather later, and I find it a really comfortable and stimulating environment to do so. So please bear with my 'marathons' :P

That said, ph, I want to point out that Libyans have spent 30 years or more blaming the authorities and it has got us no where. Besides, we cannot propose any solutions until the roots of things are understood, rather than their many rotten leaves. Most people who say that the root of problems ARE 'understood', don't even recognize that they are a HUGE part of perpetuating the problems, by 1) ignorance, 2) internalizing the same values of a decrepit system.

Idealism is very important. Without a vision of where you're going, your lost. Besides, I think I moved from idealism to empiricism pretty quickly, if I may say so myself.

Lastly, there are hundreds of solutions, once the problems are understood; structural solutions, policy solutions, but most importantly, solutions for civil society building. Even with structural adjustments, the population needs decades of training, empowerment and rehabilitation before any of these solutions become concrete.

We can expand in more appropriate arena's of debate. :)

Salam

mani said...

oh sorry, I forgot to say two quick things ph.

more than half the population doesn't have sewage systems? ... evidence please... even where sewage infrastructure isnt there.. people have dug their own fonya's, and waste vehicles are available for disposal.. and we are not talking about tripoli here too...

no public bins at all??.. that is just false...

say.. what about the HUGE mounds of rubbish strewn around the beaches and even the nice and secluded spots of sea we all like to go Zarda.. issat a government fault too??

please dont be upset cause we are not blaming the usual suspects. We want to see our role in this for a change. It's high time mate!

For you to 'AGREE' that the saintly public only takes 'some' of the blame, is you grossly underestimating our responsibility as citizens.

salam

ibeebarbie said...

Salam,

Mani, once again applauding you for your well thoughtout words. It's no secret that I'm a fan of your thought process, mashallah.

Perhaps the simple quote to remember in making a difference is 'lead by example'. Although extremely easy to point the finger at Government as the solution or lack thereof for the problem, failing to acknowledge yet once again there are three pointing back at ourselves, where therein usually lies the problem.

I do believe A_Akak pointed this out so beautifully as well with "God does not change anything in a nation until people change what is within them", alhamdullilah.

However, back to the original post - Anglo-Libyan, did you ever expect to receive the types of comments you've received on this post besides the obvious which would have been "funny Anglo-Libyan, thanks for sharing"?

PH said...

I think I'm going to use your sigh card Mani :)

a_akak said...

Mani,

Do you know the scientific name for foonyas? they call them black wells, do you know why? actually these foonya’s are a disaster for the future generations as the content of these black wells usually seep into the underground water system which people drink (via water wells) so these foonya's are actually the WORST idea that anyone can do and scientific proof about this has been covered in many journals and i know they build them from concrete but the toxic level of the human excrement are very high and with time eventually do seep

As for the bins, how many beaches have bins? how many streets have public bins? how many bins are in Tripoli? And the big communal bins dont count as they are not around the centre of tripli,

another example, in Bingasheer.....only 25 km from Tripoli....guess what no sewerage system and yes only black wells.... and I am not reffering to farms but in the housing estate the government built

Conclusion:
Who do I personally blame? both 50% each no difference and as much as the people are to blame the gov need to do more in terms of education and facilities

PS: for out none Libyan audience, a Foonya is a type of temporary sewerage that people connect to their homes and its basically a storage from human excrements and then they suppose to dispose it but that never happens as they just bury it

Fe Aman Allah

Salam A_Akak,

First off I would like to say terrific blog! I had a quick
question that I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing. I've had trouble
clearing my mind in getting my ideas out there. I do take pleasure in writing however it
just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally
wasted just trying to figure out how to begin. Any
suggestions or tips? Appreciate it!

Lazer Frenzy isn't going to make use of the accessories devices of Lazer Tag, though. Over many years, Monsters Arcade hosted events comparable to their weekly Scrub Tuesday gatherings to regional tournaments like Blood Bath and Beyond.
