Internet Grooming

Internet grooming is a rising problem here in the west, it usually involves young girls and boys getting contacted by an anonymous person on chat rooms or even on blogs, the people making contact usually pretend to be of a similar age to the victims and start grooming their prey slowly and over time they get their confidence the victim gives out his or her Email then it progresses into exchanging phone numbers and even addresses. On many occasions it has been found that these people are usually older males or paedophiles, some were caught as they met their victims as their activities were monitored by the police.

Some of these men do contact young vulnerable women, deceiving them and pretending to be falling in love with them, many women had thought they found an ideal partner just to be heartbroken or even worse...

The reason I am writing this is because I have heard that this problem is beginning to surface in Libya, my advice is do not give your personal details (Emails, Phone numbers) to any stranger that contacts you online and remember, these strangers are not going to ask you for your personal details straight away, it will happen after a time when they think that you started to trust them. If you have young children that go online, please do monitor their activities within reason, take a lesson from the appalling incidents that happened in the west and do not think that this is a problem that only happens else where, it is happening in Libya as well as any other country on the planet.

Take care of yourself and of your family and may Allah protect everyone.

Happy Miloud to you and yours too dear brother!

What a lovely post Anglo. I truly hope our young ladies would listen , take care and be xtra vigilant as weirdos can really put on a good act. In the end somebody is sure enough to get hurt.

Slam Anglo Libyan, it is great post I agree with you in everything you motioned in it. I as a person have an internet café in Libya I notice many Libyan young girls sending their pictures, and belief me when I say they wearing mini skirts and clothes that should wear in wedding or privet occasions in those pictures to foreign persons maybe Libyans or Arabic or even Europeans or Americans I don't know what makes this poor girls do this things and how they could trust them.
There is dark side and activities in the internet world unfortunately must of Libyan parents don't realize that, maybe because they don't know how to deal with it and how it works.
I always advising my friends who don't know anything about the internet and computer to take courses and learned it, because someday they will be fathers and mothers and our life will be more complicated with the internet and computers and they should know how to watch their kids to protect them

Parents should keep up with the technology specially now as the innovation cycle is getting shorter and shorter or else the kids will take them for a ride

As for young ladies or men going to the net searching for romance, there is nothing wrong with that. Ignorance of life is a person worst enemy.

What protects a person from not being fooled upon is not education, knowing little technology, it is your daily reading of newspapers, magazines, blogs, websites and seeking knowledge in any form all the time.

Even Steve Jobs of Apple Computer made a comment about Kindle: Amazon's New Wireless Reading Device that will not succeed because people are reading less, which is true. I do not understand how can a person get his daily knowledge of life by just watching news for 30 minutes and listening to Oprah show.

For the person who got hurt, you should thank yourself that you found out that the person does not deserve you. Every person gets hurt once or twice in life and that's normal and healthy.I always believe that a person has the right to change his/her mind about a person when it comes to a relationship. At the same time I do believe that a person has to respect the privacy and trust which was given by the other person which I think many people violate.

Aside from the complex physical connections that make up its infrastructure, the Internet is facilitated by bi- or multi-lateral commercial contracts (e.g., peering agreements), and by technical specifications or protocols that describe how to exchange data over the network. Indeed, the Internet is essentially defined by its interconnections and routing policies.

As of December 30, 2007, 1.319 billion people use the Internet according to Internet World Stats. Writing in the Harvard International Review, philosopher N.J. Slabbert, a writer on policy issues for the Washington, D.C.–based Urban Land Institute, has asserted that the Internet is fast becoming a basic feature of global civilization, so that what has traditionally been called "civil society" is now becoming identical with information technology society as defined by Internet use. - web design company, web designer, web design india
