Yet again the Libyan rulers prove they have no respect for their own people, for many years Libya has been portraying itself to the outside world as Jamahereya, which means something like the nation or land that is ruled by the masses i.e. Libyan people! yet in reality we all know that the country is ruled by one family and its followers.Yesterday in France, Libya was the only country missing from the newly formed Mediterranean union, the reason for that is not because the Libyan people voted and decided against joining, no the Libyan people have no say what so ever, the rulers decided to prevent Libya from a possible improvement to the country by joining such a union which can have many benefits for a country such as Libya which in turn could possibly improve people's lives, the reason Libya will not join is because according to Mr. G this is a new form of colonialism, imperialism..blah...blah...blah
For nearly 40 years they have been shouting and screaming this crap at the Libyan people, this in turn lead to Libya being lacking in everything behind basically every Arab country yet the irony is that our leaders have no problem calling for and joining for an example an African Union and basically throwing away billions of dollars at corrupt African leaders who have a habit of keeping the money for themselves rather than spending it on their poor people!
Europe might not be perfect but it is for sure a better choice for Libya if life there is to improve for everyone, what can Libya loose from such a union? at the end of the day they can opt out if it is not for them.
I am sure Libyan people are just about sick of all that nonsense they keep hearing about why Libya can not become a part of the developed world.

I disagree, i am proud Libya did not attend and proud that we had the guts to stand out and i fully support the countries discussion as why is Israel there? and if Libya did attend that is a deceleration that we recognize Israel as an offical state and officially we do not, so how can can "we" sit on the same table with someone "we" dont recognize?
I 100% support this move and insha allah i dont get proven wrong

thank you for your comment but Libya is a member of the UN and so is Israel! Libya is member of the Olympics and so is Israel!
being in the MU does not mean supporting Israel, after all many countries joined yet they have no desire of supporting Israel.
did Libya not join in for the right reasons?? that I might support but the reality is we support Mugabe the murderer no problem or questions asked!!
anyway if you read Mr.G's speech about the MU you will notice that he is not against the recognition of the state of Israel as such.
I'm not into politics or understand it for that matter, needless to say I do support the bettering of Libya for the Libyan people. We are worth so much more than what we have, if joining the MU means a better life for us and our children then yes please. but we can go on forever debating the Israel issue....wake up people...we have Marks and Spencer in Libya, who don't deny and advertise their support for Israel and Libyans still go there and spend their money. I'm all for bettering our country, but refusing to do so because of Israel's involvement in one hand and indirectly supporting them in the other is ridiculous.
for someone like a-akak who obviously has a good life in england it is a shame that he does not care about libyan ppl living in libya.
we live here and suffer yet you get the young ones who do not know what suffering is repeating the nonsense about israel and other issues, we come first not israel, time for us to look after our own people.

If Gaddafi was offered the presidency of this Union then he will be the first to show up, but unfortunately Mubarik beat him to it, and all parties who are involved in the Middle East problem are there, so why not Libya?, but Gaddafi is too proud man, the hell with the Libyans who cares about them anyway. Did anyone forgot how he kept the country under sanction for almost 10 years just because he didn’t want to hand over the two culprits, imagine.. 5millions suffered for the sake of two! Anyway time would tell if it was a mistake not to attend this Union or not.
Regarding the comment that AKAK made, I think no one should be surprised, he wont say other then that, he still blowing his trumpet to the regime as others like him, and still raising the old tattered slogans from the past, as he doesn’t want to be sent back to Libya and lose all this luxury that he has in UK, if it wasn’t for his good relation with the regime and that he benefit from it, he would say something else about this issue or stay quite.
My advice to AKAK to stick to posting his glossy photos in his blog and not to try to polish the regime’s image as it is worn out and in taters from all those years just like its old slogans .

anonymous 3, it is true that time would tell and that is why Libya should have joined and made its points clear but as we know that is not how things work in Libya.
May I point out something:
Akak is someone I know personally, he is a decent man who is very passionate about Libya, we may disagree on many points but I would never descibe him like that, in fact in previous posts about Libya he did show his disagreement with many issues there and therefore I wish everyone would refrain from making him look bad, he is not.

My friend,i think here you mentioned the why for such a decesion..
Instead ,Libyan wealth is being poured into stabilizing a non-stable african states and such..
If i was to chose ,i'd chose the mediterean union..
