Pictures & Libyan Stolen Art!

I was in Turkey recently for a few days trip, while I was there I took a boat trip round the coast, the scenery was very beautiful, as we were heading back to shore I started seeing a shape of a baby's head in the mountain, I took few pictures, what do you think? can you see what I saw?

Spot the Baby!

Closer!

Here it is highlighted, Weird or what?? سبحان الله

I have read before that Israeli Jews of Libyan origins are probably the most loyal community to its old customs and rules and that they are very proud of their Libyan connection, I found the following video on YouTube showing or enacting the old Jewish/Libyan custom of marriage, I thought it was good and fun:

It was very sad to read yesterday about the theft of valuable items from the Islamic Museum in Tripoli, the strange thing is that whole exhibitions have been cleared by the thieves, it just does not seem to be a normal robbery, some people working there must have many answers, what a shame to loose such beautiful artifacts and furniture, I wonder how many more stories of stolen Libyan heritage there are? I bet too many.

Here are phots of the stolen treasures from the Islamic Museum in Tripoli, apparently everything you can see has gone!!

anglo this is not libya's problem only unfortunately and i'm speaking as art historian here. usually huge galleries and museum in the 1st countries contract people to stole those precious objets and then they sell them in famous actions house.

it happens very very often. the robber him/herself usually has no idea what they are taking. the really robbers who for sure works in fancy offices, give a very detailed list of each object the want to have.

of course countries like yours and mine are blamed worldwide as irresponsibles or negligent and so on.

i lived in europe as you know for about 5 years and i got tired to see brazilian art all over europe without any documentation.

i'm really sorry about it. unfortunately, ambitious and unprincipled people are everywhere.

take care!

When I read the bad news regarding the theft of the Islamic artefacts I got real mad about this crime that committed against our heritage and history, which made me to write about it in my blog today (great minds think alike quote) there are some sick people who do anything for the sake of gaining few dollars by selling their country by all means what a shameful act, lets pray for these stolen articles to be found soon and returned back to where they belong.

Greetings, Anglo. Just a comment from left field...

Why do Libyans get all bent out of shape about some artifacts gone missing from a museum? Compared to other losses like liberty, wealth, citizens dignity, what is the big deal about some items that belonged to an Italian contessa? What is so ISLAMIC about black and white female portraits and European furniture? Sorry, but I just ain't buying this time, either.

Yes, corruption happens everywhere, but there is a difference between clandestine corruption and in-your-face oppression.

Bottom line: If a member of Gaddafi's family gave these artifacts as a gift to some foreign bozo, what the hell are Libyans gonna do about it? My guess is they will do what they always do: Spout some holier than thou nonsense and go for more back stabbing.

thanks sarora for your support, glad you liked the pictures :o)

Abdullah, most of these crimes are well organised from within! thanks my friend.

anonymous, I just wanted to show the video, you are entitled to your opinion.

meme, the links on the post explain what happened, thank you.

Weda, I think people of my generation and younger we do not know much about the Jewish history of Libya, shames since they were a part of our country, new technology is allowing us an insight into a forgotten period of our history.

Leandra
of course your comment makes a lot of sense, I read that some of the objects are already appearing in Europe.
although what happened in Libya was on a massive scale in one go not just the odd object. thank you for the information.

Weldemdina, thanks for the compliment :o)
you have explained it well and I think many Libyans should write about important issues, its only right.

Greetings Suliman
there is no denying corruption in Libya, many of us wrote about it and Libya sits highly on the list of the most corrupted and oppressive countries still I find it unacceptable for our heritage to go missing, yes probably one of the precious sons took them, I do not know, this is just another black episode in Libya of which there are many.
As I understand the Contesa donated the artifacts to the musuem and that is why they were exhibited there, regarding the name of Islamic Musuem, I think it is just a name, just like for example the British musuem here in London that has nothing to do with "British" since almost everything inside is from other countries and civilisations.

anonymous, what you said is true, still it does not make it right, all countries need to look after themselves and do everything in their power to return what has been stolen, thanks for the comment.

ahlan Hanan
Turkey is a beautiful country with lovely people :o)
Yes Hanan, there used to be an ancient Jewish community in Libya that lived there until the 60s thats when all of them immigrated to Israel and other countries, check youtube and there is a film called "The Last Jews of Libya" I have not seen it so I cant comment on it.

Every time i hear of some loss of a piece of Libyan heritage ,it burns me from inside...It is sad ,out rageous and depressing..
The way authoroties are dealing with such treasures is disastrous...These items are a part of Libya...As much as people are...
Sad...
-----
About the Libyan Jews...They are Libyans till they CHOSE other wise..No body should question that..
i came across some videos about Libyan jews before..
Again ,they are part of Libya ,unless they chose not to be..
What do you think??
Thank you again for a very interesting post dear friend
best regards
