First Day Of Eid....

Yesterday the first day of Eid after seeing a couple of cousins there really wasn't much for us to do so we decided to go and visit London's newest shopping centre, Westfield Shopping Centre, we got there early afternoon after getting stuck in heavy traffic due to road repairs, the place was impressive and very massive, it is supposed to be the biggest city shopping centre in Europe but straight away I noticed that there wasn't many people around even though it is nearly Christmas and people are shopping every where, of course the credit crunch must have had an affect but I think the main reason is because this mall houses mainly designer expensive stores, there are few high street shops in there but overall most shops were expensive for most people I think and that is why they stayed away, who can blame them at these times!
Most people in there were Muslim families just like us, no where else to go on a cold winter day.

The car from Batman's new movie, The Dark Knight, was there and they were taking photos for anyone that wanted it for free, so we got a nice family photo and the best thing was that they looked very bored so no one tried to flog the DVD to us or anyone else :o)

For lunch we had a choice of two places, a Lebanese restaurant or Nando's, of course the kids chose Nando's which was packed with Muslim families, so it was a meat free Eid for a change.

Amir sitting inside the "O" in Nando's!

We all had a good time, it was different but sort of enjoyable, a lot of eye shopping is good for the pocket, hope everyone had a nice memorable Eid.

Few weeks ago I read about this mall but the reason that there are not so many customers around is because of the credit crunch and people are afraid to buy and there is not a single day in USA that you do not read about layoffs "We are not talking about hundreds but in thousands" and the truth it is very scary atmosphere. Many mall owners are going under big time.

Same observation for the last 4 days :-)

wow, so you do not need to fly for 7 hours to shop in a dubai-style mall eh? hehehe

nice pics, i never been to westfields but it's so close.. i guess i don't see the attraction coming from dubai but mind you, it's a perfect place to shop in this cold.. i just got my fingers frozen off riding on my bike in this weather.

by the way, am i the only one to say something or have you got more Eid greetings on your blog than the King of Saudi Arabia?!!?!

Mashalla!!!

Salam Anlgo-Libyan,

Nice way to spend the day indoors out of the cold. Beautiful looking mall. Westfield must be one of the biggest mall organizations in the world---all the malls around me are Westfields. Indeed the shopping seems not as busy this year. I went into WalMart the other morning and there was no one there. However, what was strange was the parking lot was fool---so wonder what happened to all the people. :-)

wow, what a super megalomaniac mall!

i don't understand how those places are still built? don't they have a economical group who can advise them that the usa would become 3rd world and once again taking everybody with them?

well, what really matters is that you and your family had a wonderful day!

eid mubarak!

Reading your readers comments on my tiny cellphone using mini opera on bus heading home "Will send you the bill for my new glasses" :-) I remembered this article.

Shalom, Christmas Shoppers: Israelis Sell Cosmetics, Toys at the Mall
Determined Vendors Haggle, Hail Customers From Kiosks; $500 for a Day's Work

I think many of your readers in USA have encountered these Israelis in the mall lately.

Westfield usually quiter in the mornings of the wek days. Much busier in the nights specially weekends.
I went there on the second day. May Allah return the Eid on you and the family with all the health and wealth.

Judging from the photos, Amir seems to me to have grown much in recent time.
I guess, you need to buy new shoes and trousers for him again and again!
